Meet Faye

This is what breaking the cycle looks like.

Faye never imagined she would be raising 12 grandchildren.

After losing two sons, she and her husband chose to keep their grandchildren together.

“If it wasn't for us being here and taking them in, they would have all been separated.”

Stories like Faye's are unfolding all over our city.

Two worlds exist side by side.

Many of us have no idea families like Faye’s exist in our neighborhoods.

It's like two different worlds existing side by side. And they almost never meet.

That means some families are left carrying impossible burdens alone, while many others would help if they simply knew and had a way to become involved.

That's the bridge Sons & Daughters exists to build.

You don't need to be an expert.

Many of us don’t realize what we have to offer families in crisis. We assume professionals are what they need. And of course specialists do have a role to play.

But there is another kind of need that no professional system can meet.

People need friendship and encouragement.
They need to know someone is in their corner.

The most common word families in crisis use to describe their situation is “lonely.” As Sons and Daughters, that’s the gap our model fills.

“We don't enter these relationships as an expert. We're not coming as a mentor. We're coming as a friend.”

We get to know families first. We earn trust over time. Then, as families are ready, we introduce volunteers from local churches who become part of the support around them.

Without someone intentionally building those bridges, those relationships almost never happen.
